Around the World in One Year -Fly Fishing with Tom Gordon
May 9, 2014
My name is Tom Gordon, I'm 24 years old and my girlfriend and I have been travelling around the world for a year. I have been fishing since I can remember and has always been a big part of my life. I fell in love with flyfishing when my father and I went on a trip to England and Scotland a few years ago and I really got a taste of what fly fishing is all about.
In the last year of travel I have caught over 50 different species on the fly and fished for fish I could only have dreamed of. From spey fishing for Atlantic Salmon in Scotland, to a grand slam in Belize, it has been a trip of a lifetime.
We started out in England and worked our way around Scotland and Ireland, we travelled through Europe, but didn't get much of chance to fish. Then we flew to Canada and drove from Vancouver Island all the way up to Calgary and down into Montana fishing all the trout streams along the way. Then we drove down Highway 1 in California and fished for striper bass on the Californian Delta. From there we flew into Central America and fished Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico.
Now we are back in Australia for a few months before moving to Vancouver. I can't wait to get back there and chase some more steelhead and salmon!
